Park Superintendent
Sykesville, Maryland, United States
I started out as a seasonal employee, but I moved up to the top because I had a great boss who showed me the way. It was only once she left and when I took her position that I decided that it was not for me. I enjoyed working in parks, but you have to work while everyone else plays and there is not a great work/life balance.Piney Run Park - Sykesville, MDPark Assistant to eventually Park Superintendent - Administrative assistant for Park Superintendent as the Park TechnicianGreet and assist park patronsPrepare payment vouchers, purchase requisitions, work orders, personnel requisitions, travel authorizations and other documentsManage reservation and other calendars for park grounds, pavilions and buildingsOperate a full range of park and grounds maintenance and equipmentPerform janitorial services as neededPerform routine park maintenance as directed to insure a safe and clean environment for staff and park patronsPrepare and supervise work assignments for volunteers, students and service workersFollow OSHA, MOSH, BOCA, Department of Natural Resources and County Parks Rules and Regulations, State Annotated Code and other Federal, State and local lawsProvide support to program operations and assist with animal care at park as directedPerform related duties as to specific assignmentsIdentify as Essential Personnel during emergency situationsProvide services to customers by answering questions, providing information, making referrals, and assuring appropriate follow-through and resolutionCommunicate with managers, supervisors, co-workers, patrons, citizens and othersMaintain confidentiality and represent Carroll County in a professional mannerAs the Park Superintendent, I primarily perform supervisory and administrative work related to planning, operations, and maintenance of a regional park facility, that included unique features like a reservoir and a nature center, in accordance with Federal, State, and local lawsOther duties as assigned
