I am the Governance Development Officer for the Diocese of Brentwood, a new role leading and coordinating support for governors in 94 Catholic schools across the Diocese.Until May 2018, I led EES for Schools Governance Support, supporting and developing the effectiveness of over 400 governing boards. I continue to work for EES as a part time tutor developing and running workshops to support school governors.Serving as a school governor for nearly nineteen years, at both a large primary school (now Outstanding) and several secondary academies, has given me a deep understanding of the difference effective governance makes to school improvement as well as the challenges faced by governing boards.I have a reputation for being professional but approachable, always willing to listen and to help find solutions in order to support governing boards in carrying out their role effectively. People tell me that when I commit to something, it gets done. I am passionate about the importance of education and a firm advocate that strong governance is key to ensuring successful educational outcomes for young people. Key Achievements with EES? I am particularly proud of my work in re-designing the welcome packs for new governors and new chairs as bite-sized, easy to use apps, This innovative work was developed in association with Pearson Publishing. I am co-chair of the Eastern Region (ERCOGS), a thriving and supportive group of school governance professionals which comes together each term to engage in professional debate about school governance, share good practice, develop resources and provide professional support, and am privileged to represent ERCOGS on the national board of NCOGS (National Coordinators of Governor Services). Initially a secondary school teacher, I am an HR professional with over twenty years' experience, specialising in performance management, recruitment, professional learning and development and equality and diversity.
