For as long as I can remember I have always been drawn to Special Needs and children. My husband jokes if I disappear at gatherings, he always knows to look for me where the group of children are. I believe not only can I teach children with special needs but I can learn from them as well. I started substituting almost 8 years ago, mostly in the ESE job openings. Each time I was requested to return for the next opening. 4 years ago, I accepted an opening at our high school. At the end of the day, the administration asked me to become a permanent addition to the department and I accepted. I love being an instructional assistant and having the experience of working with children with special needs. I have experience in working with severely profound or low-prevalence self-contained classroom to being one-on-one in the general classroom. I also on the committee that created one of the first working sensory rooms in our county as well as being a co-sponsor for our Social Inclusion club.My strengths include organization, willingness to work, following through on a task, as well as listening and following directions, being genuine, and empathetic.
