Debbie always loved drawing and coloring, and drew constantly as a child in New Jersey. In the 6th grade she won an art scholarship; a year of lessons at the Montclair Art Museum. She wanted to become an artist, but career and motherhood intervened. For years she satisfied her artistic bent by making original quilts, but the desire for drawing and coloring was still there.In 2005, Debbie signed up for a drawing class. The instructor introduced the class to pastels and Debbie knew she had found her passion. Pastels completely satisfied her love of color in a way no other medium had. For several years she studied life drawing with Master Pastelist Alex Piccirillo, and still life and landscapes with Master Pastelist Christina Debarry. She has taken workshops with Catherine Kincade, Roy Kinzer, David Garrison, Frank Federico, Maggie Price, Kathleen Galligan, Richard Lundgren, Lyn Asselta, and Michael Chesley Johnson. Her works have been exhibited at the Montclair Art Museum, the Bedminster Library, the Whippanong Library, Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, Fleming Island Library, Wehner’s School of the Arts, and in many juried and member shows in NJ and FL. Her work also hangs in private collections in the US, Canada and Australia. She has won awards, seen her work selected as cover art for a novel, and as interior illustrations for a cookbook published to raise money for charity.Debbie is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of New Jersey and formerly served as their Vice President of Exhibitions, and currently serves on the board of the First Coast Pastel Society, the Art Guild of Orange Park, and is a member of the St. Augustine Art Association and the Jacksonville Artists Guild. Because of her commitment to wildlife and conservation issues she also served on the board of the St. Johns County Audubon Society. Since 2011 Debbie has lived outside Jacksonville, FL, and has found the amazing Florida landscapes to be a completely new source of inspiration.
