I have served as faculty representative to the Board of Trustees for over 10 years (not all consecutively), been a member of the administrative team, coordinated.

During the teacher research sabbatical program I worked in the lab of Dr. Ron Korstanje, primarily doing histological analysis of black bear kidney structure. This was part of an on-going research project looking at how bears are able to retain normal kidney function even after months of minimal usage during hibernation.

In this grant-funded position I worked with two local school districts to implement policies and procedures designed to increase health and wellness among their students and staff.

I was a founding faculty member of the MSSM, which opened its doors to students in August of 1995. I was also co-developer of the Expedition Program, which brought students to Newfoundland, Canada, for ecological and ethnographic research projects.

During this time I was an instructor in, and chair of, the Environmental Science Program. When I began I was the only full-time member of the department, along with one adjunct. After 5 years we have 3 full time members of the department, and student enrollment had increased significantly.

During this Fulbright Fellowship I conducted much of the field research for my PhD project on silica biogeochemistry of peatlands. I also attended a research conference in Sweden, and traveled to Russia and China.
