Fibre-FTTPI initially joined the team as a planner, but in recognition of my skills I was put forward to learn Incremental Build which is a more in depth look into the network, understanding capacity problems and laying fibres using a system called Piper. Engineers in the field frequently sent me the information asking for help, which I would mirror on the network and then provide solutions. I was the one who everyone came to when they required advice, as I explained it in a way they understood and could make the complex appear simple. Devising Incremental Build estimates extensions to the current FTTP network required being able to determine if capacity was required on the equipment in the exchange using Gazetteer and also a good understanding of wayleaves & their impact on timescales. I produced estimates for civil engineering and poling, covering both underground duct and overhead solutions. I was accountable for delivering all Openreach planning activities to agreed Openreach programme timescales, in line with quality of service and financial targets to meet customer and end user demand for Openreach services.My specific role was to provide optimal, commercial designs as per the requirements of the specific work-stream e.g., Fibre To The Cabinet, Fibre To The Premises, BDUK, Fibre On Demand etc. This included:• Carrying out survey work, in conjunction with customers and 3rd parties, to provide workable solutions• Creating working drawings for contractors and Openreach engineers. Checking to see if land is private or public, always checking it’s cost efficient to the business and customer• Liaising with external contractors and local authorities to provide the best solution• Planning delivery dates to meet both service provider and customer requirements• Resolving issues as they arise• Ensuring all work is compliant with Health and Safety regulations, and company principles• Using internal systems, updating information within timescales required
