We are a relatively new social media group of fabulous people- a non profit organisation - who work at a grassroots level to ensure we meet the needs of the homeless and vunerable in Cardiff and Newports city centres, bridging the gap where the services literally can not! Self funding and fund raising, we visit all our citys street sleepers and provide them with what ever needs they have, whether it be a simple sit down in a doorway with a hot chocolate and a chat, or helping them fill in their forms to get back on the housing spectrum, which many fall off over the years for simply being in a doorway or on a park bench! We gain trust and mentor the homeless by signposting to relevant organisations, sorting out hostels and liasing with appropriate professionals. I have built up a team over the last 3 years of wonderful hands on people who give their time freely, distributing clothes, underwear etc, or just hanging out together. In January 2019 we aquired a new premises in Newport - our very first Hub- where the guys can come and have a coffee, get a wash in private, get kitted out in some fresh new clothes, have a laugh, and even get their hair cut as we have a professional barbers chair and a fab barber who comes in every week to cheer them all up. The smiles on their faces once they are spruced up is simply priceless. Many many, have drug abuse issues, alcohol issues, and many mental health conditions, particularly ptsd and social anxiety. We are not key workers, or social workers. We are ALL hands on, practical, super friendly and hard working individuals who have a passion for getting them one by one the help they need and off of the streets , permanently. We have got many into their first new homes, and part time jobs, and are really doing well. Super proud of them all, and super proud of my little team. I mean, empathy costs nothing, right?!!!! Long may we reign....
