I have more than 30 years of experience in working with people with mental health problems, a degree in mental health nursing and an NHS career encompassing a range of senior nursing and management posts. In 2008, I started Enable Support Services - a specialist support service for people with mental health problems www.enableandsupport.co.uk.Enable has established itself as a well respected service provider and demand for our service is high and increasing all the time. Our growth has significantly increased in the past 12 months and in May 2020, working in partnership with Somerset County Council and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, we launched a brand new 'Step Down ' housing service for people with mental health needs - providing short term supported accomodation to people leaving inpatient mental health units. This was closely followed in June 2020, by another new service -' Step Up' which provides short term support to prevent people experiencing mental health crises being admitted to hospital. This 24 hour service provides a safe place to people and we are working collaboratively with a wide range of partners to deliver this much needed service. The timing for me completing my Return to Practice course as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in March this year could'nt have been better ! A chance to refresh my knowledge and skills and bring them into leadership back home at Enable!Alongside all of this, we are also currently working on the development of some longer term supported accommodation options for people with complex mental health needs. So with this, we will be able to offer a wide range of housing based mental health services to complement our growing community support services. We are fortunate to have recruited some very strong operational managers and my priorities are ensuring Enable continues to deliver high quality services, financial management and strategic development of the business.
