I worked in a volunteer position involving weekly English lessons for ex-refugee learners. The lessons were aimed at assisting the learners to be able to successfully live in New Zealand, and had a particular focus on day-to-day interactions with 'kiwis'. I still have regular interaction with my learners and assist them when they require it.I also volunteered as an assistant tutor in a class environment. This involved assisting learners in class activities and presenting material to the class.

I was the sole receptionist in a busy podiatry clinic. My roles included greeting clients, answering phone calls, data entry, invoicing, and transcription of medical documents and letters. I also had the responsibility of ensuring the medical instruments were sterilised.

North Sydney

I was employed as a GIS Analyst in the North Sydney office as part of a small GIS team. Projects included preparation of data and map sets for Council Local Environmental Plans, collation of data and mapping of environmental constraints for proposed developments, creation of forms for field data collection using Microsoft Infopath and Sharepoint, and preparation/processing of field equipment data including MobileMapper GPS units and GPS cameras.

I was employed as the sole GIS contact in the Auckland office for New Zealand operations. Upon leaving I was part of a team of four GIS staff. Responsibilities comprised project work - specifically spatial analysis and creation of maps for use in reports and presentations, ensuring service delivery to internal and external clients, quality assurance of file storage, and final review of project deliverables. Internal client disciplines include terrestrial and marine ecology, mining, geotechnical, planning, water management, and air quality.Project work entailed import/capture of data in varying formats, geoprocessing using ArcGIS and add-on software tools, use of Microsoft Access to manage and query spatial data, and production of maps and numerical data.

Responsible for data analysis and mapping for a variety of sectors including planning, environmental, traffic and transportation, road building, geotechnical, and asset management. Typical project examples include outputs for public consultation, land-use, and town planning maps, DEM creation (from LIDAR and contours), census/demographic analysis, accessibility analysis (walk/cycle catchments), asset mapping (including extracting data from RAMM database), and concept/design and management of a company-wide intranet database.Key competencies developed while working in this role include:The ability to work with various types of information in a range of formats,Data interpretation resulting in the production of meaningful outputs,A wide range of technical skills including geoprocessing, VBA, model builder, georeferencing, surface generation, and network analysis,Good cartographic design and an eye for detail,The ability to be able to communicate well with people from various technical fields.
