I cut my market research teeth back in the late 80s, and have ever since helped international clients demystify Japan’s enigmatic and often finicky consumers. Data and insights have become my biggest allies in guiding companies towards better understanding and success in Japan, and onward into Asian markets.Finding that unique twist to give companies a real advantage is something I revel in - whether it be carving out a new customer segment, developing a novel product, or creating bespoke communities that generate more meaningful customer dialog. When my Mom became severely ill in 2007, I approached this new challenge leaning on my trusted allies - data and insights - to help me navigate the family caregiving terrain. I learned about the devastating combination effect presented by the phenomenon of worldwide aging and healthcare systems that are ill-equipped to handle the growing demands - and how more and more, family members are having to step in to fill the gap.I also learned how, with three-quarters of all family caregivers working full-time, many companies are increasingly challenged to address the very real business risks related to what has been called “the next global healthcare crisis.” My first-hand caregiving experience led me to generate my own data and insights and become a published author on the topic. My work in both Japan and exploring the new frontiers of aging and the family caregiving realm has lead onward to delving into aging technologies, developing special interest communities, and … I cannot wait to see what more!
