Having taken the role of Project Manager to help the team manage the website design & build process back in 2006 as a first contract, the role has morphed over the years, as has the organisation.Originally Arts Council funded, along with a partnership of 10 Local Authorities in Derbyshire, as the economy has shaped local authority funding over the years, the brand has had to evolve to secure its continuance, under the watchful eye of Ann Wright, Head of Arts for Derbyshire County Council. In its latest guise, Ann was instrumental in transforming Arts Derbyshire into an independent charity, achieving CIO status in 2020.I’ve overseen the build & rebuild of the website four times in its history, each time saying to myself ‘never again!’. I’ve worked with editors over the years, and have now become the editor, using this project also to train over 20 University placement students from the University of Derby, Nottingham Trent University, Sheffield Hallam, University of Sheffield and also school children on placements from Lady Manners School. It has provided a valuable opportunity to teach many the art of digital marketing, content production, Google Ads, social media, writing and web design & development, and it will continue to do so over the coming years. As a resource for the creative industries in Derbyshire, in its early days it provided a high quality entry point for many artists & arts organisations that didn’t have or couldn’t afford their own web presence. Adopting Twitter when that came along, Facebook and Instagram and playing on the sidelines with Pinterest and other platforms, introducing email marketing and getting out on the road for physical events have provided a huge range of opportunities to connect with local creatives and offer signposting and support to this community that is largely made up of microbusinesses, sole traders and SMEs.There’s no doubt the brand will continue to evolve! -
