For twenty years I worked as a Title 1 Math teacher working with grades 2-5. My job requirements were to identify and support those students who were struggling in math as well as meeting and planning with grade level teams. I also organized and implemented staff development concerning the development of math skills. During the time I was with Title 1 I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Kathy Richardson, out of Bellingham, Washington. Through her in-service classes I gained a strong understanding of how children develop mathematically and how to use manipulatives and questioning to help them in their development.During the last five years of my career I was a classroom teacher and part time math coach. I taught a class of fourth graders and worked with teachers to support them in planning an effective math block, understanding the math they needed to teach and to support them in their use of questions to help their students' achievement.Specialties: I have spent a good deal of my career working either one on one with teachers or planning and implementing staff development in math. I have acted as teacher leader in my school which offered me the opportunity to take part in numerous district in services designed around math instruction and coaching. I was asked back, after retiring, by two schools to support their teachers and students in order to reach AYP.
