Are you a "Daring Greatly" success story? One of my heroes, author Dr. Brené Brown, talks about "Daring Greatly." And, like many of you, I did—heading into the unknown with heart pounding and knees knocking. After years in management and buying with Macys, I wanted more time with my then-young children. So, I dared greatly and started a resume service. This was pre-internet, seat-of-my-pants, hope-for-the-best stuff! SURPRISE!My practical solution became a passion! A hunger for knowledge, and a talent for innovation kept me hurdling over courage challenges that scared the ___ out of me. That was daring greatly. In 2004, after I became one of the first Certified Personal Branding Strategists, my mentor, personal branding guru William Arruda, encouraged me to niche my website to my favorite clients—those I respected for their vision and values and nicknamed my “Capitalism-done-right” execs. SO I GOT GUTSY, AND I GOT REALAnd it worked! No sharks or suits! Almost immediately, scrappy, fun, ethical, senior executives became clients. I did the daring greatly happy dance! Fast-forward to today. I'm grateful and humbled to be considered a leading voice in personal branding and career communications innovation.I’ve been privileged to be a founding member of two leading career organizations (and a board member of three), a co-author of two books, a keynoter and conference speaker, a curricula developer, and a serial innovator. And I've met the most amazing people.WHAT’S NEXT?Now, in my “third act,” I've dared greatly and closed my practice. I am thrilled to work with Marie Zimenoff, CEO of the Career Thought Leaders think tank, serving on the board, and developing/teaching certification programs in Digital Branding and Career Storytelling.
