About Debendra Das
In the beginning stage of my career, I had gained practical engineering experience working and consulting at a number of industries, through involvement in design, manufacturing, testing of mechanical engineering systems. Subsequently, I gained experience in the US government, working at a Navy lab. These experiences were valuable in my subsequent profession. I selected an academic life in 1984 and dedicated myself to become a good teacher, while maintaining a good level of research and administrative services to the university.. Have taught numerous courses to possibly thousands of students, Have inspired many students who have gone on to become extremely successful. Have encouraged many young minds assuring them that many things are possible, so they should think big. I have been compassionate to all my students, helping them tremendously when they have lost their confidence and faith. I work closely with many students and listen to their concerns and anxieties. I was able to create an impression in our department that my graduate students were always sure they would get their degrees. I work hard with them continuously, until they produce high quality theses with publications in respectable journals. My mentoring philosophy has given them the satisfaction that they can succeed. Academic life continues to be a good experience for me and I look forward to giving my service to the students for a few more years. Above all, I have always encouraged my students to be fair, compassionate and understanding in order to be a good citizen.
