When we owned our own Construction & Home Building business, I had the opportunity to deal with, manage & oversee a very wide range of duties; I guess you could say I wore many hats! I reconciled and balanced monthly bank statements for numerous accounts. I managed the overhead budget and provided a detailed analysis of actual results vs. the budgeted plan. I implemented an Accounting System for accurate and timely vendor payments ensuring they were posted in the appropriate General Ledger Accounts. I approved, coded, processed and paid vendor invoices weekly, ensuring they were within the budget. I managed the office staff and kept personnel records on all employees. Processed W-9’s & YE 1099’s for vendors and worked with our Payroll company to issue W-2’s for employees. I prepared reports from our accounting software, sometimes exporting the data to Excel spreadsheets for daily, weekly & monthly spending & Job cost vs. budget reports. Processed bi-weekly payroll, as well as monthly and yearly bonuses and monitored all employee expense reports. Reviewed and balanced the general ledger monthly, quarterly and at year end. Worked with our CPA, providing support for month end, quarter end and year-end balance sheet and income statement reviews. Recorded Journal Entries as needed, and did budget amendments when needed. Recruited, hired and supervised the work of clerical and secretarial staff and monitored their workload and work rate. Managed the company’s Health Care Insurance. Requested Bank funding for loans as well as processed all Construction loan draws. Ensured Worker’s Compensation and General Liability Insurance Certs were current on all Sub Contractors and Vendors. If you've ever owned your own business, you know that your list continuously grows & changes and you never really "punch" the clock to go home; however, it enables you to take a sense of pride & ownership. It's the hardest thing we ever did, but I wouldn't change a thing!
