Throughout my life I have had many opportunities to travel and experience many cultures all over the world. My experiences living in different countries and interacting with diverse people have led me to develop a passion for understanding how people think and learn across different cultures. When I first started my undergraduate program at James Madison University, I considered the field of psychology because it combined my interest in cross-cultural perspectives with my commitment to helping others. My major degree coursework and personal research have further developed my specific interest in the behavioral approach to psychology. I have also had the opportunity to gain first hand experience through an internship with Child Care Connection, and a field-based independent study with the Salvation Army. My interests in psychology continued to grow during these experiences, and caused me to explore another interest in working with children in the field of clinical psychology. My current goal is to pursue my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, while also maintaining a full-time job. While I have a specific interest in clinical psychology, I am eager to learn about different fields of mental health. My past experiences have granted me with a broad knowledge of psychology that allows me to be flexible in my career. As both a self-motivated learner and cooperative team player, I am excited and well prepared to begin a rewarding future in the field of psychology. I hope that my future career will embody my specific interests, and inspire further learning for years to come.
