Modern and Contemporary Art InitiativeAs part of the Modern and Contemporary Research Initiative, I was engaged in a multi-faceted internship experience related to the study of modern paintings and artistic objects made of plastic. I had appropriate training and I carried out scientific instrumental analysis and data interpretation, documentation, archival research, and project-specific support. I have become proficient with sophisticated analytical techniques such as, FT-IR and Py-GC/MS. I was exposed to a busy team environment and learnt how to collaborate, brainstorm, organize information, and disseminate results.

I learnt how to work in a microbiology laboratory; the main tasks consisted in the preparation of basic culture media (fungi and bacteria), the processing of streaking plates and identification of colonial morphology. I learnt the components, setup, procedures, and care and maintenance of a bright field microscope for the identification of microorganisms. I extracted and quantified microorganisms DNA by using E.Z.N.A.® Stool DNA Kit and QuantiFluorKit® One DNA System by Quantus Fluorometer respectively. The intership was part of my Master thesis project entitled Novel Green Strategies for Mitigation of Biodeteriogenic Agents in Built Heritage.
