Lead Art Therapy groups for the Strength to Strength Program for Cancer Survivors and Caretakers

To educate children in the school systems about Disability Awareness. Goals: To increase the awareness and understanding of children with disabilities both physical and non-physical types; in an effort to promote positive attitudes and foster healthy friendships in the mainstream school setting. Programs offered:1. Presentation in School system (K-8) regarding “Disability Awareness for All” Includes: Power-point, Puppet, Story, and Q & A. 2. Follow-up hands-on training in the classroom; including story telling, puppetry, art experience, role playing and video.*Each program can be catered to the needs of the school & students

Coordinated and led Art Therapy Program for orthopedically impaired pediatrics ages 2-19, in both Individual & group sessions. Collaboratively designed and implemented Art Tx/Child Life Program w. Child Life Specialist in treating adolescents with diabetes & burn injuries. Incorporated art, drama, sand tray, writing, and medical play in patient’s trtmnt. Instructed developmentally/physically disabled pre-schoolers in ECC program. Used assessment procedures, documented patient progress and regularly attended team meetings. Continually provided in-services, art displays, supervised Graduate interns & assisted in hiring new staff members in department.

*Designed disability awareness program for elementary kids (k-3) and provided hands-on training at Ridge Street Elementary School in Rye Brook, NY Utilized storytelling, puppetry, movement & video, along with providing follow-up art & drama activities.

Taught four * seven credit courses entitled “Art Therapy: Theories and Applications”, Art Therapy with the Child, and “Creative Dramatics with Children of Special Needs”. Developed course description, learning contract, lecture material, and assignments.
