Obtain status updates for families, from surgeons and nurses, about patients in the pre-op center, in the operating suite during surgery, and in post-op/recovery bays. Assess surgical patient family needs and provide emotional support, detailed information, and appropriate resources. Cultivate team-building relationships with surgeons, nurses, and hospital staff to optimize collaborative care outcomes. Function as the “front line” of communication, emotional support, and proactive problem-solving, for the surgery center.

My experiences in the attached post are to engage military/veterans AND their spouses, along with supporting communities, in learning the skills to connect around mental health and suicide. I know because I saw firsthand the destructive forces that PTSD has on those serving and on the ones who love them. Starting as a volunteer, co-founded YOU ARE NOT ALONE Suicide Prevention Outreach and delivered suicide prevention classes to Alaskans statewide by working for the Alaska Department of Education and the Alaska Department of Behavioral Health and Social Services (through the University of Alaska), and the Alaska Police and Fire Chaplains. Trained over 5000 youth and adults in an evidence-based, suicide prevention program following best practices. Developed training and strategies to help students succeed at becoming peer presenters. Personnel management and training involving staff and youth at over 75 Alaskan schools statewide. Provided advocacy services for both military and civilian groups, students, and school staff across the state of Alaska. Presented suicide awareness presentations to over 15,000 Alaskans statewide.

Responded to police and/or fire departments' requests for on-scene emotional support, following a death or traumatic event in the community. Assisted in writing policies & procedures manual, managed website information, created brochures and marketing material, and community resources, including content and design work. Anchorage School District Liaison, CISM Team, and Classroom and Field Mentor and Evaluator. Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Debriefing Team, certified using the Mitchell Model for groups and individuals. Certified suicide prevention master trainer, responsible for planning and delivering community presentations; representing APFC at events and community meetings.
