Visual Art and Design instructor in SE Asia at a tri-lingual, IB World School. In addition to my role as Studio Art and Art History Instructor at Concordian International School, I also initiated (and I teach) the Mindfulness programs for adults and teens. Fifteen years of international work has made me comfortable in academic settings where Thai, Arabic, French, German, Indo-European, and Chinese languages are spoken. Not only am I used to a multi-lingual environment, I thrive within one, and can be supportive to students who are trying to find a place with peers. I teach technical skills covering all areas of art instruction from drawing and painting to printmaking, ceramics and sculpture, and even to fashion design. I sometimes couple use of digital design tools with pre-digital ones, so that students can easily experiment. For example, in a Keith Haring-inspired sculpture project, after creating their sculptures, the students photographed them and manipulated a background setting with Adobe Photoshop. Posing to themselves the classic, creative thinking question, “What would happen if …?” they explored the impact on their creations of scale change, juxtaposition, and irony. Basically, we Photoshopped our ways into new creations.
