I am a middle school English Language Arts teacher at a K-8 school. Before COVID, I worked as an educational lead specializing in language arts and dabbled in school improvement planning. When the world began to open after COVID, those with an elementary background were sent back into the classroom. Initially, it was a SCARY thought—do I still have what it takes?To give you some background, I started my career in elementary education, initially working in upper elementary before transitioning to primary. I spent over fifteen years at this level, cherishing my time but ultimately feeling the need for a change. This led me to a role in school improvement planning—a great experience, but the lack of student interaction wasn't for me. Then, an opportunity arose in middle school, and I became an instructional lead for middle school literacy. Working with this age group was initially daunting; it wasn't where I envisioned myself. However, as I gained experience and confidence, I realized how rewarding it could be. Now, I can't imagine being anywhere else. I work at a smaller school, allowing me to follow my students from grade six through grade eight. Witnessing these young individuals evolve into enthusiastic readers and writers has been truly rewarding.Additionally, I am part of an amazing team. We laugh together, support each other through struggles, and lift each other when teaching overwhelms us. Teaching is all about making connections; students need to feel that we are invested in their success so that they can truly engage in learning.

From September 2012, until June 2015, I worked as an Educational Support Teacher - K-5 Literacy. During that time, I supported teachers and students with their Literacy needs. I worked with small groups of children who were slightly behind where they need to be at any given point during the school year. In addition to this, I supported teachers in delivering the New Brunswick Literacy Curriculum. I was also a member of the School Leadership Team and met regularly with Administration and Grade Level Teams to discuss school data and goals.
