I am chair of draw inc. We are a Hamilton based collective of practicing artists with a mission to “Engage the World through Art”. We all share a passion for Art and our fundamental belief that Art enhances community is a driving force behind our actions.For the past year, our focus has been on supporting the working artist by exposing the wider community to the benefits of Art. We have renovated empty retail spaces in the Hamilton CBD and transformed them into pop-up art galleries. Emerging and established artists are invited to exhibit their work where we encourage robust dialogue and reflection by the community in a transparent, non-threatening way.Early in 2012 we won the Innes48 hour Business Start-up competition which has set in motion a new direction for Draw inc. We are now developing a business model to promote the value of artworks to the corporate sector, via options such as renting, or purchasing. We strongly believe that, in the same way that fashion brands the individual, artworks can enhance the branding of your company. I am an artist who has been exhibiting in the Waikato since 2004. I completed my Bachelor of Media Arts majoring in painting and sculpture at Wintec in 2007 and completed my Post Graduate with first class honours in in 2010. I share my time between my own art practice, working as part of a team running the gallery and developing 'draw inc.' as a sustainable collective. In my current art practice I am researching the quirks of human nature and the concept of being grateful. this inquiry is always fuelled by travel, observations on life and light. Deborah is also chairperson of the Wintec Postgraduate EPG (Employer Partnership Group) This dynamic group of people come from both the education and business sector advising Wintec on issues related to course quality and its relevance to the arts industry.
