About 15 years ago, I was working in non-profit communications when I got laid off while on parental leave. I had three choices: mope about, find a new job, or carve my own path. I chose the more difficult of the three and ventured out on my own. I embraced the life of a freelance copywriter while also being a full-time stay-at-home mom to two kids, ages three and under. My copywriting work leaned heavily on the art of storytelling. I could gather these stories to tell thanks to my ability to conduct impactful interviews — a skill I honed in my past life as a newspaper reporter. Over the years, as those kids grew into the teenagers they are today, I grew my business of me-myself-and-I into a highly-respected communications agency focused primarily on supporting non-profit organizations, foundations, and associations.Luminate has a team of copywriters and a graphic design partner, and together, we support our clients by showcasing their impact and giving meaning to their message.Our experience spans gender-based violence shelters, mental health agencies, food banks, community hospital foundations, housing and social services groups, 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations, First Nation reserves, and more.
