Describing my experience marketing wildebeests, wireless, and wine, my resume can read like a random sampling of dictionary w’s. Yet this unlikely trifecta of consumer goods and services has allowed me to apply my strategic marketing communications skills in a wide range of contexts, and indulge my love of travel, talk, and the occasional glass of Pinot. Most recently I was the Marketing Director for Bushtracks Expeditions, an adventure travel company specializing in custom African safaris and private jet expeditions. I conceptualized, wrote, and project-managed the production of 500,000 brochures annually that were the company’s primary distribution channel. While direct mail was the primary vehicle for filling trips priced up to $70,000 per person, I also supplied content for the blog, website, social media, and videos, and handled all aspects of our off-site sales presentations.Multi-tasking comes easily, thanks to my days at Western Wireless, an early cellular service provider, CellularOne licensee, and the predecessor to T-Mobile. As one of the start-up’s first marketing employees, I progressed from Marketing Manager to the Executive Director of Customer Loyalty over a decade, and earned an MBA. In the Customer Loyalty role I was tasked with tackling the critical problem of customer attrition across a 1 million subscriber base. Our cross-functional team re-engineered our cancellation process, set renewal guidelines and incentives, and conducted a direct mail campaign that doubled contract renewals among our target customers. While the chance to write back label copy for Clos du Bois wines initially drew me to marketing, my more recent work combines strategic thinking with an ability to collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts throughout the organization to achieve results. Whether promoting cell phones or safaris – or anything in between – I deliver clear communications that reach the right audience and compel an easily actionable response.
