As the OCYF Medical Director, I provide guidance on the health needs of the children, youth and families served by all of OCYF’s programs, including each of the Division of Youth Services facilities.

I work as a liaison with local public health directors and staff in assurance of core public health services. I serve as a public health consultant for public health partners for the purpose of promoting and maintaining a strong public health infrastructure. This includes public health directors, public health administrators, public health supervisors, public health nurses, school nurses and staff, governing boards and public health staff. I manage and provide technical assistance for programmatic portion of the Local Planning and Support contracts administered through the Office of Planning, Partnerships and Improvement, including Maternal and Child Health funding and other public health programs. I work with professional organizations to ensure public health improvements and issues are address at a systems level. In this position I advocate for the health and well-being of the entire population and serve to define the importance of public health throughout the state. In addition, I serve as the Senior Authority on School Health, ensuring CDPHE is represented in decision-making that affects the health of students (e.g. with the Colorado Department of Education, local schools/districts), while coordinating programs within the department who work with the Colorado Department of Education.

As a Detailer, I am a recruiter and consultant to medical providers facilitating the optimization and integration of public health prevention practices and methods into their practices. I deliver evidence-based clinical education and practice facilitation to medical providers throughout the state. As the first Detailer hired by CDPHE, I have also developed a comprehensive clinician outreach (detailing) program. This program has expanded from the single topic of HIV prevention in 2016 to many public health initiatives including sexually transmitted infection prevention/screening/treatment, hepatitis screening and treatment and opioid overdose prevention. The ultimate goal is to improve clinicians' prevention services, inform decision making around pertinent interventions and to continually enhance the quality of care for Coloradans.

Deborah is a family medicine physician who joined the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in 2016 to build the department's first detailing program and provide clinical education outreach on HIV prevention, sexual health and opioid safety. Deborah now works as a liaison for the state to all local public health agencies and to the Department of Education ensuring core public health services are provided equitably for all Coloradans. A graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, internship took Deborah to Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania followed by Family Medicine residency at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. She also received her Master of Science in Public Health through the University of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Deborah has previously served as an academic detailer for CPHDE on the topic of HIV prevention, and provides real-life experience as a member of NaRCAD's AD training facilitation team.​

As a Physician Evaluator I have the privilege of making "house calls"​ for Seniors and people with disabilities within the state of Colorado. Working for a private sector company who contracts with Medicare Advantage, I provide an annual in-home Wellness Visit comprised of a comprehensive medical history, medication review, physical examination and functional assessment of member's home or residence. I am fortunate to be able to spend much more time with a patient than is possible in a traditional clinic environment, and I am able to assess living space for safety, accessibility and functionality.The goal of this annual visit is to identify any gaps in health care or recommended disease prevention or immunization, ensure a safe and functional living environment, discover any concerns from the patient or caregivers related to patient's health and level of independence, and procure resources which may be available to improve quality of life.

The Research Applications Laboratory within NCAR is performing collaborative end-to-end research, development, and technology transfer that expands the reach of atmospheric and related sciences by addressing important problems that impact society. One of these points of societal impact occurs when atmospheric science intersects with disease pathology, prevalence, pattern and prevention. I am currently consulting on projects ranging from dengue in Mexico to meningitis in Ghana.
