About Deborah Murray
I joined Groundwork in 2011 as Programme Manager, and was formally appointed to Executive Director in 2022. Prior to joining the Trust I had previously worked in both public and private sectors and was keen to try out the VCSE sector. Somewhat surprisingly to myself, I am still there! Why? Because I am passionate about people and their connection with place. Because I am energised by working with partners across all sectors to make a difference in Greater Manchester's communities. Because I am committed to continuing to work with those partners to deliver positive social impact and lasting change.I bring a varied mix of experience and expertise to my role. I started my career as a town planner in local government in Merseyside and Greater Manchester. I then spent 10 years as a consultant supporting public sector clients with some of the most ambitious regeneration and development plans in the north west. During this time I honed an acute commercial awareness, but this has always been balanced by a strong personal drive to ensure organisations act responsibly and ensure people and planet are at the heart of decision making.My strengths are in: - Strategic thinking, loving nothing more than joining the dots to develop creative solutions; - Building multi sector partnerships around a shared vision; - Making things happen, building skilled teams, planning projects and taking a high degree of personal accountability for deliveryI have led the development of Groundwork’s vision for Greater Manchester, aligning this with then needs of our communities and stakeholders and with our own charitable objectives. This vision underpins our strategic business planning and our day-to-day activity. I have also personally driven the growth of commercial services at Groundwork GM to support our charitable work and maximise social impact. This includes supporting the development of a national growth plan for consultancy services and positioning Groundwork as a community engagement partner of choice for corporate partners. What does the future hold for me? Hopefully more of the same - working with like-minded individuals and organisations to deliver better outcomes for people place and planet.
