Prior to joining full time in 2003, my partners initially sought me out for periodic accounting and IT, extending my ownership role to active participation. When I assumed the Finance Manager role in 2003, I was challenged initially with turning around currency exchange and poorly structured banking procedures. In 2006, I added a staff member and became CFO to take on a more overseeing directional role and offload day-to-day tasks in accounts payable, payroll processing, accounts receivable collection management, staff on-boarding and termination, purchasing, and safety training. IMPROVEMENT AND INNOVATION CONTRIBUTIONS:* halved our T4 form processing turnaround times from 6 to 3 weeks by migrating our manual payroll system to a web-based counterpart.* propelled our Internet connectivity 500% by inking a deal with our ISP to install unique hardware in our facilities.* lowered our payroll completion times 66% (i.e., from as much as 12 hours to just 4 hours) by replacing physical time clocks with a computerized time-and-attendance system.* bolstered our employee payroll service at least 50% by moving to direct deposits.* improved employee benefit plan information access among both office and plant employees by encouraging and training the employees in the use of self-serve online tools.COST SAVING AND ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS:* halved our monthly cellphone bills 50% (i.e., from $1,200 to $600) through negotiations savvy.* saved as much as $6,000 a year in phone fees by collaborating with IT personnel and partners to replace our original Bell system with VoIP.* helped to sky-rocket employee morale, decrease their stress levels, and increase their self-confidence by assembling a lunch-hour employee fitness program (including a personal trainer and a nutritional consultant) whereby all 4 office personnel support one another in this healthy activity.
