I set up dp Consulting in 2004 as a specialist strategy and business development consultancy for the third sector. I worked with a range of clients, from multisite national charities to volunteer-led community groups, taking them through a business development process from re-visioning and branding to income generation.On average, the charities that I’ve worked with have seen growth of over 100 per cent, and I’ve personally raised over £30 million from commercial, statutory and voluntary sources. More recently I have been specialising in social investment and trading models. I have also led a number of organisations through a change/transformation process.I employed a range of associates, making up high-level, bespoke teams to meet clients’ needs on a project-by-project basis.Clients and assignments included YMCA England, the Watershed, English Federation of Disability Sport, London Health Commission, Campaign for Body Confidence, Y Touring, Marketing Birmingham and the Reigate Disability Centre.

I was appointed to guide the organisation through an extensive change management process. This included redefining their vision, mission and core objectives, and rebranding them as a campaign organisation working at a policy level to change UK sport for the benefit of women and girls. Women in Sport is a national organisation and I managed a staff team of nine as well as a national volunteer network. The position included considerable liaison at a government level as well as much media work.

As Programme Director of Central YMCA I managed a department of 13 full-time staff, up to 40 part-time staff and coaches, and over 200 volunteers. I was responsible for providing strategic direction, ensuring they met the objectives of Central YMCA, and overseeing their delivery of community health and social provision, including a 5,000-member health and fitness gym, an extensive older adultprogramme, a referral scheme for people living with chronic health conditions, and a children’s and young people’s programme.
