Deborah Schmidt Email and Phone Number
With over a decade of experience in academia, my journey has led me back to Franklin & Marshall College, where I channel my passion for astronomy into educating and mentoring the next generation of scientists. In my role as an educator, I apply learner-centered pedagogical practices (including a variety of digital tools) to both introductory and advanced topics in physics and astronomy to enhance student understanding. Further, I incorporate undergraduate assistants in my research group, both to further my exploration of the cosmos as well as to help the next generation hone the skills needed to have their own successful research careers. I take pride in having published articles in prestigious journals from The Astrophysical Journal to Nature, as well as having presented my work to a variety of audiences, including informal science talks and presentations at national and international conferences. This academic tenure is further enriched by my previous position at Swarthmore College, where I honed my pedagogical methods and research acumen, as well as my experience as a graduate student at the University of Arizona, where I earned my Ph.D. in astronomy and astrophysics in 2019.
