Our children are precious and require our respect and wonder as we participate in the dance between child and teacher. The child is a free and equal human and my role as a teacher is one of observing, noticing and then facilitating the learning opportunities through planning and the implementation of plan, the provision of language and supply of resources. Children remain in control of their development and knowledge, as they gently unfold through exploration, experiences and conversations. Learning is never confined to one environment and children learn most effectively in environments rich in experiences and natural resources, accompanied by people who they trust. Relationships are fundamental, by showing a child he or she is loved provides the foundation for the child to learn from. I believe Early Childhood is the most critical learning time and that as early childhood teachers we carry a significant responsibility to ensure children question, investigate, explore and succeed, while setting them up on a path of lifelong learning. I believe in the rights of the child to be a child first and will challenge the desire of adults to pressure-cook children into an adult model of thinking and learning.
