Licensing and certification

• Ensure regular observation are undertaken and this information is used to plan appropriate learning experiences for children while ensuring current programme plans are in place for all children • Document children's learning journey through the completion and monitor of individual child portfolio information• Conduct parent teacher interviews• Lead a team of teachers in the development and delivery of centre programme and curriculum delivery• Demonstrate teaching strategies that extend and empower children’s learning• Monitor centre environment, tools, equipment and materials that they are age appropriate, safe and purposeful• Display knowledge and understanding of Te Reo• Ensure administration and compliance tasks are complete in timely and accurate manner• Lead and manage effective communication with preschool teaching team members, while providing and an open communication environment• Develop and maintain working relationships with the wider network of Rainbow Head Teachers• Work cooperatively with Centre Management Team in the management of centre and the preparation of paperwork related to external and internal auditory requirements• Develop and sustain relationships with children, families and the community• Preparation of newsletters and parent information• Ensure all documentation is kept for all accidents, giving of medication and sickness for children while in preschool• Develop and monitor performance goals for team of five teachers, in line with NZTC Registered Teacher Criteria

• Interview and set up relationships with family, observe and assess needs of child, collaboratively with centre and external agencies, develop an Individual Plan (IP) for child, monitor implementation of IP, lead further Individual Planning meetings to ensure child’s development/ learning goals are continually being extended and developed following a cyclical methodology• Support EC teachers in the facilitation of inclusive education service through observations, advice and guidance, professional development, individual planning and monitoring• Liaise with colleagues to create a cohesion of service delivery for children; these include paediatricians, Child and Adolescent Community Centre Therapists, and CYF Social Workers• Employment, induction, management, support, mentor and delivery of training for Education Support Workers, working with children in early childhood centres• Maintain effective electronic record keeping on a national database that is efficient, professional and completed in a timely manner• Participate in a community of learners in the development of early intervention practice in line with the Service Pathway and Routine Based Early Intervention, at local and regional level.• Undertake a lead role in the development of Individual Planning (IP) templates and practice to ensure that that IP practice becomes meaningful and directly relates to a child’s development needs while adopting practice developed from the Routine Based Early Intervention frame work.

I was appointed in the position of head teacher at MIA to support and manager a fledgling enterprise. We started with 4 students and this grew significantly over the two years while I was there. I had a role of developing and training teachers, working directly with students, managing relationships with parents and Staff management responsibilities. I also facilitated the roll out of primary classroom that linked through with the early childhood philosophy and teaching evident in the Pre-School. All in a country where English is a third language.
