About Deborah Bakti

I am driven by my passion and conviction to revolutionize relationships in seniors' care.For families, moving their loved one into seniors' care is filled with fear, anxiety, guilt and grief, amongst other challenging emotions. For staff, they've been called to this work because they care, and they too grapple with stress and anxiety when they're meeting their new resident and family, while wanting to provide the best possible care.There is so much opportunity to improve this experience for residents, families and staff and set everyone up for success from the very first interaction and conversation. That way, we can lessen the friction and frustration that can happen which results in relationships breaking down and having negative impact on everyone involved. I’ve been on both sides of Seniors’ Care – as an executive and a resident’s family member three times, with my husband, mom, and dad. I bring my heart, my unique perspective and practical experience to help staff build their confidence and competence to work more effectively with families who are feeling anxious and afraid of moving their loved one into their home, and help reduce the anxiety that staff are also feeling.I help my clients in three different ways:1. Training and education programs for staff to re-ignite their why - their passion for care and provide practical tools to build their confidence and competence with family relationships through a Staff and Family Relationship Strategy.2. Education sessions for families, based on my book Now What? Managing the Emotional Journey of Long-Term Care for Families, to help create awareness with families about their new role as a Partner in Care, and provide insights to help them build trust and partnership with their loved ones’ care team3. Review and redesign the admission process so that it’s more efficient and supportive to onboard families and residents RIGHT from the start.I'm the author of two books: RECIPE for Empathy: Six Strategies to Transform your Families into Fans in Seniors' Care and NOW WHAT? Managing the Emotional Journey of Long-Term Care for Families.
