The rigors of her educational background have imbued her with a multi-faceted approach to architectural design, taking into account the complexities and nuances of built environments.Professional Experience With extensive experience in both large-scale federal and institutional buildings as well as small-scale infill urbanism, Deborah has a deep understanding of the architectural needs at various scales. She founded Cedar Architecture with the ethos of fusing architecture with nature, aiming for a harmonious blend that offers not just aesthetic appeal but also practical and health-centered benefits.Community Involvement Deborah is not just an architect but a community advocate. She is actively involved in the City of Alexandria's groundbreaking Healthy Homes Initiative, launched in the summer of 2023. This exploratory program aligns perfectly with her growing interest in applying health-conscious design principles to architecture. She also serves as an active member of the Maryland State Accessory Dwelling Unit Policy Task Force, which was initiated in 2023 to revisit and update residential zoning laws, addressing issues of access and affordability for homeowners.Leadership and Contributions As a leader in the architectural community, Deborah served as the president of the AIA Potomac Valley chapter in 2020 and remains an active board member, currently chairing the Committee on the Environment (COTE). She also held a board position at AIA Maryland from 2020 to 2023, highlighting her continued commitment to professional development and community service.
