I grew up loving books, and that led me to pursue work in book publishing. My professional background has mainly been in the world of educational publishing, seeing large and small projects through all the stages of the production process and managing teams of project managers and services to get the job done. I like the challenge of collecting the puzzle pieces and figuring out how they need to go together, and being ready to change direction when things don't go according to plan. I especially enjoy the collaboration process that discovers a better result based on everyone's creative thinking. I'm known for communicating thoughtfully and clearly, and for being able to ensure materials are prepared to high quality standards in terms of clarity and accuracy. While I'm glad to continue with rewarding publishing-related work, I'm also looking toward roles in a philanthropic foundation or a non-profit organization that supports valuable and effective work to improve the community. I'm interested in filling a grants management, development, or operations role where I can apply my project management and communication skills to advance important community and humanitarian goals. Outside of my professional life, I've pursued my love of Brazilian music by learning to play samba and other percussion forms, and I have also facilitated teaching activities for a master Brazilian percussionist and culture bearer in the bay area for more than 15 years. In addition, I have an interest in immigrant and refugee rights, currently volunteering on a regular basis with the local office of the International Rescue Committee, and in the past I was an English tutor with a refugee family. I especially enjoy the opportunity to engage with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds, and I hope this can be a part of my future work life as well!I can be reached at cogandeborah@gmail.com regarding any opportunities. Thank you for your interest!
