About Deborah Everhart

I'm a strategist and innovator focused on empowering organizations that are envisioning, creating, and implementing learner-centric solutions. Advancing the work of national organizations, I currently serve as the Chief Strategy Officer for Credential Engine. I have also served as a strategic advisor for the American Council on Education. Developing internationally recognized open technology standards, I've contributed to and led initiatives with Credential Engine, 1EdTech, the T3 Innovation Network, and the Badge Alliance. I chaired the Badge Alliance working group that defined a conceptual framework and technical standards for badge endorsements. As a thought leader, I've led the collaboration of research groups comprised of nationally-recognized experts, authoring works on critical topics such as "Quality Dimensions for Connected Credentials" and "Communicating the Value of Competencies." My publications include white papers and book chapters on strategic innovations in credentials and skills, including the Credential Transparency Description Language (CTDL), competency-based learning, Learning and Employment Records, comprehensive learner records, open badge ecosystems, and badge endorsement. I've written and presented extensively on cutting edge topics. As a corporate executive, I've led the development of innovative technology products and services. At Cengage, I managed teams of product managers, designers, engineers, and quality assurance in end-to-end agile processes. Together we designed and delivered a competency-based, personalized, interoperable learning environment platform, including capabilities for open educational resources, backward design, comprehensive learner records, open badges, and portfolios. My responsibilities also included contributing to thought leadership, business development, and marketing campaigns, communicating the value of industry-leading new technologies in emerging markets. As a teaching practitioner, I've served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Georgetown University, most recently teaching a competency-based medieval studies course in Liberal Studies.
