I've been a Photographer and Creative Director for many magazines, agencies, catalogues and clients over the last 30+ years. I have traveled with world shooting lifestyle, portraits, home and garden, products, photojournalism, still life, food, fashion, travel and more. I'm as comfortable at the White House as I am in the countryside outside Saigon, photographing a convicted killer in a prison outside Baton Rouge Louisiana to shooting Chris Rock in my studio in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City.

I have been working as a Photographer + Creative Director for 30+ years. I moved to New York City from Bethesda, Maryland in the late 1988. I started freelancing for ELLE magazine under the direction of Creative Director Regis Pagnez, Art Director Olivia Badrutt, Fashion Director Jane Chang and Gilles Bensimon. ELLE launched my career as photographer. I was able to rent a studio in the fashion district and start to invest in my equipment. To learn the aesthetics of ELLE, Regis and Olivia sent me on a few shoots with Gilles. The early 1990's was a very exciting time for magazines. It was a small world. American Marie Claire had just launched, I started shooting for them, Allure, Lucky, Cosmopolitan, Metropolitan Home, Glamour, Seventeen, I could go on and on. It seemed like it was the Wild West of the NY editorial world. I could have never planned my career, it just happened. It sometimes meant working round the clock, running back and for the labs, which were open 24 hours a day, often rushing the processing because magazines are notorious for doing everything last minute. I said yes to every shoot. It was an amazing time. There was a lot of money and freedom. Photography boot camp. stylist and Monthly visits by Polly Mellon to shoot her Fashion Police section of Allure. I traveled all over the world with good people; editors, assistants, stylists, models, hair and makeup artists. It was hard work, which I now realize I thrive on, both physically and mentally. But it was worth it. I didn't know how lucky I had it. Assignments took me to Clinton's White House, Saint Barts, Alaska, London for the day to shoot a portrait, a women's prison outside Baton Rouge to shoot a convicted murderer, all over India, Saigon, Hanoi, Hawaii a few times, all of the US, frequently to LA, where I had extended stays at The Chateau Marmont (thank you Si Newhouse & Conde Nast) I had almost total freedom to shoot, as long as I got the shot they were looking for.

I'm a grateful portrait, interiors, still life, fashion, beauty, celebrity and food photographer. Anything I haven't named, just ask me, I love trying new things. There isn't a place in this world I wouldn't hop on a plane at a moments notice to do a shoot. Hey, if you are interested I'll draw/paint anything too. I have photographed people, places & things all over our world. From a portrait of a beautiful young convicted murderer in a women's prison outside Baton Rouge, Louisiana who went on a mass shooting spree with her boyfriend after watching Oliver Stones's "Natural Born Killers" for Glamour, to renting a beautiful houseboat on the shores of Kerela, India. Drifting down the serene backwaters capturing the local people's Ayervedic lifestyle for Getty. John Kennedy Jr. sent me to the Four Seasons Beverly Hills to shoot Jon Stewart. John Jr. asked if I would have Jon lay on my hotel room bed and pretend to have a hangover while I shot him for a story for his magazine George. Next John Jr. sent Chris Rock over to my 29th St. studio for a portrait. Chris walked in on his phone ignoring everyone, but within minutes, he loosened up, was dancing & joking all over the place. My photo assistants couldn't keep up with the film I was burning through. I had to keep telling Chris to "Stop, please and stand still!". I couldn't focus, his energy was contagious. He didn't want to stop, we could have kept shooting all day. But we ran out of clothing changes & were way over our film budget.I spent a month in Vietnam for another lifestyle shoot for Getty. I cast a beautiful young girl who was a daughter of a prostitute. We explored Saigon, from the markets, to the rice patties, renting a house in the countryside for a week or so. I find that the more I can acclimate to a location and make whomever I'm shooting more comfortable, the better and more natural my images become. For more stories and images, please visit my website. It was a pleasure to travel all over the world producing shoots in the chicest locations in the world: Saint Barts, Parrot Cay British West Indies, Palm Springs & Miami just to name a few. I also was sent to shoot photojournalistic newsworthy stories in a women's prison outside Baton Rouge Louisiana, a breast cancer survivor in West Virginia, an underage breast enhancement candidate in London. Deborah was chosen for her experience and keen eye by Creative Director Scott Fellows to work with a small team of international creatives in a think tank group for Bally of Switzerland in Zurich. The goal was to update Bally's fashion brand and create an image for the company and its fashion designers, architects and team to follow.

Deborah created a promotional video of the history of Ferragamo shoes that was exhibited in the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue nationwide and all the Salvatore Ferragamo boutiques world wide.Created an inspiration book for the company to direct a new look and feel for the brand. Worked closely with Scott Fellows, Former Director of Worldwide Marketing and Image for Salvatore Ferragamo, as well as the Ferragamo family in their Palazzo Spini Ferroni in Florence, Italy.Photographed Fall 1997 fashion advertising campaign which was published worldwide as gatefold and back cover ads in magazines such as Vogue, New York Times, GQ and Harpers' Bazaar. Deborah cast actors James Legros and Tara Subkoff to star as the campaign’s models and shot the campaign and accompanying short promotional film at Madonna’s Hollywood Hills home.

Worked directly with Gilles Bensimon, Regis Pagniez to create a 3 page story monthly titled "Great Style" in the front of the book in which I featured fashion trends and photographed the items for the sections as wells as shooting fashion, still life and travel stories for the magazine.

Produce photo shoots both at Ken's Soho studio and on location for liquor companies, and other brands as well as advertising agencies. Work with talent, often celebrities and their handlers. Location scout, on set production, casting. In studio work with Ken's photographic archive and magazines requests for celebrity syndication.
