Now it’s time for new adventures!Initially hired to produce events just weeks before the Covid lockdown began, I helped the organization quickly transition to online events so that we could continue our mission of providing resources that drive professional development for our member photographers, and the larger photography community as well. As great as those Zoom events were, it was nonetheless even better to get back to in-person events (two years later) while still using Zoom as an effective tool.In my role I handled all the social media accounts for the New York chapter as well, utilizing them to provide practical resources and inspiration for the community. In addition, I revamped the newsletter in both content and style, bringing a cohesive vision to chapter communications, which helped promote our events, educate APA members, and recruit new members. Highlights from my tenure include our annual Juried Exhibition and week of events at Soho Photo Gallery which, for the last three years, created a mini-photo festival with packed crowds coming out to see our members’ work; also our Portfolio Review events that brought our members together with the creatives that could hire them. And of course being able to book and produce talks with inspirational, major name speakers like Pete Souza, Platon, Annie Leibovitz & so many others; each one generous of spirit in sharing their experiences and wisdom for the benefit of fellow photographers. Of course, everything was accomplished in concert with the help of volunteers; APA members and boards, all volunteering to give back to the community - which is what makes any non-profit world go ‘round. Now I move on, but I remain an APA member and wish the organization the best of luck in its next chapter! I’ll be rooting for them. Show less
