  • Center For Urban And Multicultural Education, Indiana University

Center For Urban And Multicultural Education, Indiana University Jul 2007 - Aug 2009
    Bloomington, Indiana, Us
The Center for Urban and Multicultural Education (CUME) is a research and evaluation center located at Indiana University's School of Education in Indianapolis. CUME's focus is on educational evaluation and research in diverse settings. Emphasis, during my tenure, was on formative evaluation and developing long-term collaborations with educational partners. While at CUME I oversaw all aspects of our research mission from grant-writing, research design, collection, analysis and reporting. I worked closely with a number of community partners to develop assessment and research tools to meet their needs. In particular, I was the principal investigator on a state-wide mixed method study of international education in Indiana. I also served as the PI on a 2-year qualitative implementation study of the New Tech project based learning reform model. One of my favorite community-based projects involved working with the Future Promises program, an innovative education program for teenage parents. I worked with Future Promises on developing long-term evaluation and assessment goals and on developing the necessary instruments for such work. This project was a great example of the type of close collaboration between university researchers and educational practitioners that can bring about better education models.
