"WeMedia”: Building Curriculum for Citizen Journalists and Democratic Education

- Co-designed the media literacy chapter of “Teaching The Levees: A Curriculum of Democratic Dialogue and Civic Engagement” designed to accompany the award winning HBO Documentary, Spike Lee’s When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. - Researched, co-wrote, and developed a series of six engaging units of study entitled, “In Our Own Image: Using Representations of Katrina to Empower Media-Literate Citizens” to develop students understanding about the many dimensions of governmental, communal, and personal responsibility. - Selected as a finalist in 2008 by ForeWord Review’s Book of the Year in Education

- Oversaw and coordinated all tasks related to development of IT projects for student technology labs and classrooms.- Designed and developed overall scope of projects including deadlines for each phase and project goals; researched, recommended, supervised, and integrated educational software and hardware components for projects using diverse sources; planned collaborative efforts; participated in developing plans and strategies to evaluate new potential projects.- Initiated the first consultant training program to improve customer service through training and technical assistants for thirty students incorporating a Consultant Support site.- Taught a wide variety of instructional technology applications and as a professional participant in Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to use Technology (PT3), a one and half million dollar, three year federally funded grant to create a systemic change in the way teaching and learning practices happen through the use of technology focusing on teacher training and staff development.- Developed curriculum and materials for twenty workshops including web development, multimedia development, graphic tools, and MS-Office tools.

- Co-founded, managed, and designed an advanced technology series for INVEST (Integrated Network of Vocational and Educational Strategies and Training), a job skills training program for people living with HIV/AIDS.- Taught software applications to prepare people living with HIV/AIDS to work in technology-rich careers.

- Conducted an intensive ten-day orientation to prepare 22 young teachers. - Designed and implemented teacher training workshops, professional development, humanities curriculum, and program-wide evaluations.- Supervised fourteen teachers and thirty-six seventh graders ensuring academic and social success.- Coordinated mentor teachers to observe, assess and provide guidance for teachers.- Provided ongoing support throughout the summer- Conducted ongoing teacher workshops throughout the school year.

- As a Writing Workshop teacher, team-taught fifth through seventh graders the writing revision process and literary genres including the short story, poetry, radio dramas, and the persuasive essay using cooperative learning and mixed ability grouping.- Supervised The Town School’s literary journal. - As a computer teacher, developed and taught computer-related topics such as software and web design.- Created a high impact web site (http://www.townschool.org).- Devised the first installation/repair database. - Initiated restoration routines for Windows NT network and reduced downtime.- Prepared and presented lectures for specialized topics and software for parents.

- Conducted factual and legal research for a class-action sex discrimination case and first amendment issues.- Prepared legal materials for trials and civil litigation.- Responded to letters seeking legal representation.- Conducted online research for HIV/AIDS National Project.

- Planned, facilitated weekly meetings for literacy department for sixth through ninth grade.- Created, administered and coordinate the first faculty-wide teacher observation program.- Taught in the Students Taking Academic Risks to Succeed (S.T.A.R.S.) program.- Designed major research/presentation project for ninth grade students.- Coordinated a service-learning class for students.- Developed multicultural and interdisciplinary curricula for ninth graders.- Team-taught ninth grade literature/writing and a social studies glass on global cultures.

- Assisted Professor by guiding class through a writing revision process for a freshman Political Science course.- Read and critiqued drafts of student papers.- Wrote extensive endnotes designed to identify and explain key areas for revision. - Met with individual students to suggest strategies for revisions.

- Taught seminars on production technologies, multimedia tools, software tools, instructional materials, emerging information technologies and integrating multimedia curricula into the classroom.- Trained, supported, and provided in-depth consultation to faculty.

- Taught two classes of sixth-grade English incorporating grammar, short-story, creative expression and writing into English class materials.- Developed an interdisciplinary curriculum for African-American History class on subjects ranging from the Great Migration to Hip-Hop music.- Planned and implemented classes focusing on peer pressure, self-esteem, anger and conflict management, and safe sex education, which stressed the connection between student, family and the community.

- Designed, developed and delivered online Internet training seminars- Trained students, staff, and faculty in DoIT-supported software packages, microcomputer platforms, and Internet software.- Taught technological concepts through the use of interactive communications, the World Wide Web, and presentation software.- Created electronic instructional materials and publications.
