My clinical responsibilities include co-ordinating the Emergency Department and providing nursing leadership whilst on shift to ensure compliance with the four-hour target and with ambulance triage targets. I also attend the daily operational meetings. Management responsibilities include; management of risk, clinical incident reporting, PALS complaints and concerns, off duty planning and forecasting, adherence and monitoring of key performance indicators, recruitment and HR issues including performance management, appraisals and sickness management, budget monitoring for nurse staffing and team line management. Lead for monthly Sisters’ meetings and regular participation in ED clinical governance, senior management team meetings and business meetings each month. I also attend the Nursing and Midwifery Professionals Group in the absence of my Matron. I am the lead nurse for infection control in the Emergency Department and the link nurse for vulnerable adults, stroke pathway and patient experience.I work very closely with the practice educators in the Emergency Department and have a understanding of the training needs of the department and I provide both formal and informal teaching and training for nurses in the department .I mentor undergraduate nursing students and colleagues on post graduate courses. I also participate in the Sepsis working group and was recently involved in producing an educational programme funded by the NHS Health Education England.
