I am an experienced educator of 40 years, with a focus on developing opportunity for students to achieve their potential. I began my career as a passionate and dedicated Business Teacher, where I was with another graduate, responsible for running the department at the College we were in. I have always focused on building relationships within my classrooms, knowing that pedagogy is the key to engagement and ultimately, success. I have reinvented myself many times, shifting my attention to middle years and the education, development and growth of young adolescents. My subject expertise lies in English, Humanities, Religious Education, Technology, Business and music, and most significantly in an integrated and interdisciplinary approach.As a middle and senior leader I have been responsible for leading teams through change processes at St Monica’s College in Cairns and in Brisbane at Mt Alvernia College. This is a particular area of expertise for me: leading change in schools.I have expertise in research processes, and in analysing and using data to inform practice and interventions, and completed my recent Masters degree Dissertation in the area of Teacher attitudes confidence and competence in using data to inform classroom practices. I have conducted many types of research to gauge the impact and efficacy of programs in all of the schools I have worked in, as well as in other schools in Brisbane.I am a confident facilitator, speaker and presenter having presented at conferences in Australia and Singapore.As President of Adolescent Success I have facilitated webinars and convened a number of conferences and events, and as an Education Officer, I consulted with and facilitated workshops, planning sessions and online learning opportunities for teachers and leaders.I have Published a number of journal articles, my latest with ACEL in 2021 coming out of my Masters Research: The use of NAPLAN data and support for it: Perceptions of practising teachers.I am an avid and lifelong learner and am now utilising my skills in leading and working with other educators as a consultant under the name of Debra Evans Education Consultants having facilitated my first workshops and planning sessions in the last weeks, (online) and successfully engaged with whole school staff in a number of secondary schools.
