The attitudes and perceptions of people who rely on us and seek our guidance have also shifted...whether they be factual, legal, emotional or relational. Today's world demands a different type of leadership to work through cultural, generational, gender, and communication challenges wherever they happen. It takes an 'agile' perspective to look at how we show up and how we engage as leaders in our fields of work.I learned a lot about leadership watching my dad run his Midwest family-owned dairy cattle business while also surviving on the younger end of large family of 9 (yes, 9 siblings). I saw Dad thrive and I saw our family dive as he became overwhelmed with growth, mismanaged finances, substance abuse, and a history of poor relationships with his business partner | father in ways that kept rearing its ugly head. Damaged relationships, dashed dreams and emotional suffering flourished while poor decision-making led to a failed business and the family barely surviving. From this, I developed my curiosity for understanding human behavior, the science of conflict, and how we sometimes show up as our biggest enemy.
