Debra Schenkel is a Young Adult Librarian at Lee County Library- NW Regional Library. Colleagues describe them as "Debra Schenkle’s title is Youth Services Library Associate, however Debra functions as NMB Library’s Youth Services Librarian. I have been Debra’s immediate supervisor for the past two years. I have observed Debra develop her skills as a programmer, marketer, and collection developer for the YA and Children’s Area. Debra supervises a part-time staffer and the page-volunteers assigned to her area. She is technology savvy and is eager to teach the children in creative ways. Debra is really skilled at putting together our pre-school story-times and summer classes. Debra ‘s technology knowledge has made her the liaison between our Library Staff and the City’s IT department. Debra has stepped up to being a cataloger in our Library and is flexible with her time in order to meet the various needs that have surfaced. Debra was a valuable member of our User Experience team project. She was creative and used the opportunity to create/change our teen services. Her ‘small’ change was so valuable that we were able to gauge an 18% circulation increase in our YA collection as a direct result of her initiative. Debra has a great understanding of the tenets of Librarianship. Debra’s certification in School Counseling has driven her to work with the youth and now seeks a Masters in Library information Science to become a greater asset to our Profession. "
