• Write daily breaking news stories and long-term enterprise features and produce video content.• Coverage includes a variety of topics including adult literacy programs in Buffalo-Niagara region, homeless families being placed in hotels across Erie County, Jewish families in Western New York reacting to the Israel-Palestine conflict, Palestinian Americans reacting to the conflict abroad, animal shelters in crises due to overcrowding etc.• Pitching and reporting on upcoming stories under solutions journalism: current efforts to prepare for upcoming winter in Buffalo, first-ever affordable housing for domestic violence survivors in Buffalo, climate smart communities of New York state etc. • Reaching communities of color that are otherwise underrepresented and finding stories that have highlight issues surrounding them, for e.g. breaking news story about how Buffalo is considering allowing mosques to broadcast prayer calls without red tape; how a Peruvian asylum seeker found community in Buffalo amid trauma during holiday season etc.• Using language skills (Bengali and Hindi) to communicate with several immigrant populations in Buffalo. • Mining social media and other relevant websites to find trending topics that will appeal to the readership.
