Prior to retiring from full-time employment in 2014, I was the Head of Pensions with Bank of Ireland Private Banking. I have worked in a variety of roles in financial services but specializing mainly in the retirement planning and protection areas. Over recent years my role involved advising company directors, executives and professionals in relation to wealth extraction, pension funding, investment and pension regulation. Increasingly the provision of advice to post-retirement clients with Approved Retirement Funds was a growing part of my advice role.In 2014 I decided to take the opportunity of early retirement. Whilst I can now devote a bit more time to working on my golf handicap (forever a work in progress), I also remain involved in the Pensions/Retirement Planning field on a consultancy basis, currently working with the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland.

Courses can be either open-courses or can be arranged on an in-house basis for particular groups of employees. Apart from providing information on financial issues (pensions, investments, taxation, social welfare benefits etc) we also cover subjects such as lifestyle changes, health matters, relationships and time management. I am working with the RPCI on a part-time basis as a Program Leader, helping people to manage the transition from full time work to (perhaps) full time retirement. With increasing longevity (a male retiring now at age 65 has an average life expectancy of some 20 years, females some 3 years longer) the importance of planning for a longer retirement is ever more important. -
