My role began as a Senior Developer (second Senior hire) and morphed to Lead as we scaled, given we grew the team from 5 to 20. Both positions can be summed up as technical leadership and building an engineering culture. This was through high level architectural requirements to more detailed design decisions. This required project management skills to keep stakeholders informed and timelines on track. Deciding what not to build was as important as how to build it. It involved mentoring my team and the wider engineering department. Multiple code reviews a day was the norm. Solving real problems with code was the key. It was a whole lot of programming interfacing with a bunch of soft skills.

The highlights were projects such as taking over a barely functional vendor project and reverse engineering it in to something critical to the business. There was taking the security posture of an MVP and hardening it so it could pass a penetration test. There was the 30 minute build pipeline and manual queueing system in Slack so offending my engineer brain, that I took it upon myself to do a side project to make it run in 15 minutes with a completely automated queue. MOVUS build remote monitoring for industrial machinery. Using Artificial Intelligence, the FitMachine hardware determines a machine's known good state, then informs the operator if it diverges. They monitor their critical assets in real time, from the comfort and safety of their computer or phone. They simply attach the FitMachine to the asset using its magnet and within minutes it is available in the dashboard, MachineCloud. It's like a FitBit for their machines.My role at MOVUS saw me designing, building and maintaining a suite of Cloud Native microservices and the infrastructure to run them on AWS. As a member of a small team, my responsibilities cut across the entire tech stack. I spent my days developing Python applications; debugging build and deployment pipelines; writing gnarly and performant SQL and fine tuning Infrastructure-as-Code CloudFormation templates to glue it all together. I was expected to weigh in on design decisions with our Architect along with mentoring other developers.

I was responsible for developing and building back-end applications and infrastructure running on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using Python and Javascript. As a digital agency, Hydric builds mobile and web user experiences for clients such as Spotify. My role was to develop the backing services to supply these experiences with answers, data, authentication and the like. Our team developed and maintained payment software. We had a vendor built Java eco-system with an in-house Python application to round the edges of their closed source solution where we needed something more abstracted.
