Entering its third successful year with 10-12 interns per class, this program was designed to show college students that municipal government has many career opportunities. All S.H.I.P interns receive a $4,000 scholarship. With a commitment to nurturing talent and fostering growth, our internship initiative is poised to make a lasting impact.𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫’𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 ▶️Inspired by President Barack Obama's fatherhood initiative, our program aims to support families. We organized engaging events including practical workshops on changing tires, interview preparation, fishing trips, game nights, and a final event on financial literacy. Through these efforts, we strengthened family bonds and empowered our community's youth with essential life skills. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫 ▶️As Mayor, I serve the citizens of Texas City. So, along that vein, I decided to hold monthly town hall meetings with residents to answer questions about city projects and to also address their concerns. These discussions have proven extremely valuable in staying attuned to the needs of my constituents. 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫’𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 ▶️I led a task force of over 16 agencies to address the growing homelessness issue in Texas City. The committee implemented an annual "Homeless Navigation Day" which provides essential services and support to the unsheltered population living in Texas City and the surrounding area. This day included free medical screenings, haircuts, mobile showers, clean-up stations, and resource sharing, emphasizing our commitment to treating ALL citizens with respect and giving them a chance to get back on their feet.

See below for a snapshot of a few of my events.𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚 is a festive semi-formal Christmas party that benefits a local charity. Now in its 9th year, the community eagerly anticipates this event. Past beneficiaries include the Galveston County Food Bank and Communities in Schools.The 𝐓𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩-𝐎𝐮𝐭 was a Spring Break camping trip that I coordinated and co-funded, bringing families together from Texas and Louisiana. Set on the Guadalupe River in New Braunfels, Texas, it featured tent camping, outdoor cooking, and games for all ages.The 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐨𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐦, which I pitched to the City of Texas City in 2007, is now an annual event in its 16th year. As Chairperson, MC, and brainchild of the event, I bring together top poets from across the state to compete for cash prizes.I organized a 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐬 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐩 titled “WHY NOT ME!?” to inspire kids to see themselves on a major college campus. With funds raised from my college network, we visited UT Austin for a tour, classroom visits, lunch with college leaders, and motivational presentations.𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 & 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐩 was a one-week camp aimed at teaching youth the basics of public speaking and building confidence. Students also received interview tips and boys learned how to tie a tie, culminating in a confident presentation to parents.At the “𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐩 - 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐋𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐧" I united seasoned veteran leaders and young leaders under 30 to build connections. The event bridged generational gaps and fostered mentorship and networking opportunities. Many attendees have gone on to become elected officials, entrepreneurs, medical professionals, and founders of non-profits.

▶️ Facilitate the production of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuels at the second-largest refinery in the nation, and conduct the octane rating process to ensure optimal fuel quality and performance. ▶️ Utilize expertise as a certified Finished Gasoline Operator to oversee and maintain the integrity of product transportation and storage in tanks, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulatory standards.▶️ Conduct rigorous testing and analysis as a Knock Lab Octane Rater, evaluating fuel performance in engines and mitigating potential issues related to vapor emissions and knock intensity grades, guaranteeing the greatest accuracy of our customer's specifications.▶️ Play a pivotal role in the transportation of all hydrocarbons and pipeline routing to cargo at local docks. ▶️ Mitigate risks with meticulous attention to detail in all protocols, ensuring a safe working environment that contributes to the seamless operation of the refinery's continuous production cycle.

▶️ 𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 - In 2006 and 2016, I worked on the strategic demolition anddecentralization efforts of public housing in Texas City. Drawing from my personalexperience growing up in this community, I recognized the need for citizens living inpublic housing to break away from the stigma associated with living in the "projects". Iworked on initiatives to relocate residents to diverse neighborhoods across the city,fostering a more inclusive and modern urban landscape. As a result, Texas City hastransitioned away from traditional public housing structures, embracing a model thatpromotes integration and community cohesion in the 21st century.▶️ 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐫 & 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 - I advocated and secured funding for the expansion and revitalization of these two Community Centers in Texas City, transforming them from basic gymnasiums to multifunctional hubs for the community's diverse needs. The new and improved "Sanders Center" and "George Washington Carver Center" will serve as vital community assets, offering a range of amenities and emergency shelter facilities to residents on both sides of town, with the groundbreaking scheduled for the summer of 2024.▶️ 𝐀 𝐅𝐞𝐰 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐧 - I founded and spearheaded "A Few Good Men", a groundbreakingyouth civic fraternity while serving as a dedicated school teacher, basketball coach,and club sponsor. This transformative program not only revolutionized the youth ofTexas City but also propelled the community to victory in the prestigious "All-AmericanCity" competition, securing significant federal funding and opportunities forparticipants, including access to tuition-free community college education. Over adecade, the program empowered 55 young men, leaving a legacy of community engagement and civic leadership. I take pride in being a hometown advocate committed to reinvesting in Texas City’s future.

This experience afforded me the privilege ofimpacting young bright minds, and giving hope to the most vulnerable students in despair.Teaching taught me how to be a better parent. Parenting helped me becomea better teacher. The youth, in whose lives I planted seeds, are still bearing fruit today. Whata life-changing experience the classroom brought me!
