The College has an excellent reputation both regionally and nationally as a highly successful provider of FE and HE education and training.During a short initial employment at the College in a different role my manager and I identified a potential area for financial saving within our current recruitment and resourcing practices. We subsequently designed and implemented a system within the college that has dramatically reduced the use of external recruitment agencies. We worked with internal Managers and Human Resources to build a business plan to remove on-site agencies and fulfill the temporary recruitment need in house. We successfully implemented this strategy during the 2012/13 Academic Year and it has gone from strength to strength ever since. The college moved from an annual agency head count of over 100 temporary staff to our current usage of approximately 3. Year on year we have tailored the service to best fit the needs of the college and now run and maintain between 70 and 120 temporary workers both Academic and Support. The initiative has enabled the college to employ more flexibly and fulfill the short term and forever evolving needs of the education sector, whilst making a substantial financial saving of approximately £300,000 of pure agency commission cost per annum.
