I am a passionate, caring and patient centred nurse with excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills which are so important in a nurses role. My nursing career has spanned 35 years and has involved working in the private sector and NHS, I have worked in clinical as well as non clinical roles.I was employed as a Theatre Recovery Staff Nurse for the NHS for over 10 years before a change of career to a Secretary/PA for the Surgical Management Team for the same hospital . Most of the skills I gained as a nurse benefited me in this new role e.g. trustworthy, professional, confidentiality, empathy, working as a team member, interpersonal skills and more importantly prioritisation and organisation. After attending several study days and courses this benefited me gaining new skills and giving me confidence in a new role which allowed me to take on new challenges .Having clinical and non-clinical skills benefited me greatly in this new role. The meetings that I attended to take minutes were clinical based which allowed me to use the skills I already had to understand the clinical discussions and later typing up the minutes.I enjoyed those roles were I could use my clinical skills as I believe that nursing will always be my passion. In October 2016 I enrolled on a Return to Nursing Practice course as I had made the decision to return to a profession that I had missed and loved, at times it was quite intense but fulfilling. In March 2017 I was informed that I had passed the assignment and am now awaiting the return to the NMC register. In May 2017 I was readmitted to the nursing register and am working back in Theatres as a Recovery Staff Nurse at The Beaumont Hospital, Bolton which I am thoroughly enjoying and it is so good to be back.Since returning to nursing I aspire to continually further my skills and knowledge as it is something I enjoy doing. After completing a study day I am the only PCA trainer for theatre and ward staff.
