About Dee Edney

Hi All. My name is Dee and my passion is providing creative opportunities for those who lack in confidence, have learning difficulties and those who cannot afford to go down the normal routes, as well as up and coming young artists who want to explore their passions.I am the Creative Director at Into the Now CIC, which provides health and well being arts projects for those who struggle in everyday settings. These can be accredited or just for fun, and focus on self expression, life skills and social skills.I also provide audio recording services for artists in the Kent area, and provide these services for a fee or as a skill swap.I also perform up and down the country as Angeldee, performing original material as a solo artist or with a band.I really hope to build on this and strive forward to be a positive role model.

Into The Now is a health and well-being digital arts CIC aimed at vulnerable groups and individuals who can use the arts as a therapeutic way of expressing themselves in a safe and inclusive environment. They are given the opportunity to express how they are feeling and what is important to them at this current time (in the Now). Along their journey, they will not only gain artistic and technical skills, but social skills and friendships.Delivered in person, online or a hybrid of both, whatever art form they are into, it can be included within the project to create a peice of digital work. Working with Health and Wellbeing and Arts specialist tutors, they are supported along the way and the project is totally participant led, meaning that no idea will be left unexplored. We have piloted with the BeYou project in Kent on our Now Project, where we have created 4 pieces of work including pop songs, musical theatre, animated videos, poetry, podcasts, radio shows, drawings that have been digitised, graphic design and soon to be a website to show all of their work. The tracks have been subsequently released on all streaming and purchasing platforms with all proceeds going to Children in Need (please search out The Now Project on your favourite platforms). The BeYou project have confirmed that the health and wellbeing, especially confidence levels have significantly risen in the young people taking part in this, with two of them really having life changing experiences.

Here is some information from one of the projects i successfully bid for.Don't Dis Dis (January 2011 - November 2011)For this project, it was totally devised by myself. With the aid of a local music charity, i wrote the bid for the funding and successfully achieved it.As this was for a film that showcased young, disabled people as creative entities, i contacted the local disabled organisations and arranged some workshops where we could teach them new skills in music and film them doing this. I had to source all of the relevant tutors and write the project so that it could be shown as a film, as well as liaise with the local charity for the use of their equipment and premisies for certain aspects of the project. For the musical side i hired other sole traders to provide this whilst i provided the video workshops. I took a small crew of young people to film each workshop and record the sound. I then provided editing workshops using the online software uScreen provided by our funders. I also provided green screen workshops and taught basic animation and effects. For this film, I also visited some of the young people and interviewed them about their home lives to show in contrast to their lives at their respected youth clubs. I edited and produced both the final film and all of the music involved at my studio. As it was being shown at the BFI in Southbank and in the local cinema, i had to make sure that it was compatible in format and of a high enough quality to be shown at these events. I also had to add suitable subtitles and learn about the correct fonts and formatting for people with different visual an auditary disabilities.

As an artist, I have more done this as a hobby rather than anything too serious, except maybe with one of the bands I’ve been in. Since my early days just jamming on instruments with no idea how to play them, through to getting my first music making PC and teaching myself music production, I made it into Future and Computer Music magazines with some of my first tracks written with my long time friend. I have written music for video, art installations plus recorded for other artists, writing for MC Spooka his first ever track on One Xtra. I’ve also been in a drum’n bass trio called Retronym, getting me my first ever physical release on Vinyl. I was also guitarist and songwriter in the LGBT group The Pretty Route, where we played up and down the country at LGBT venues and events, including playing on the main stage at Pride London in 2008 to 20,000 people.Nowadays i'm embarking on the local open mic scene to perform my songs as a solo artist to backing tracks that i have self produced. I will use these nights to iron out and complete my songs and then see where it goes from there.

  • Medway Council
Project Managment, Music Production And Tuition
    Medway Council Jul 2013 - Mar 2015
South Of England And North Of France
I was responsible for devising 10 week accredited courses that are provided in youth clubs across Medway, making sure that the young peoples' tastes and needs are met by booking the correct tutors and providing the necessary equipment. I make sure that all of the academic targets for the courses are met, without compromising the enjoyment of the young people. I was also responsible for the cross border projects, devising projects for both French and English young people to collaborate on, communicating in both languages. I communicated with partners in Suffolk, Brest, Arques, Boulogne and Wimereux on a regular basis as well as the management team in Medway to make sure that everything that we have set out will be achieved.I planned ahead and was very flexible with the project due to the unpredictability of the clientel, as some of the young people have specific needs which must be taken into account.I provided music technology, band skills, songwriting and video making workshops. I am always up to date with the latest techniques and well versed in my subject matter through both the workshops and my work outside of this project as a producer/engineer/editor. I used my skills in different fields to switch between subjects should the young people request something different. My teaching style is very informal and isn't focussed too much on a polished end result, but rather on the young people having a positive experience, and through this, achieving an end goal.I was responsibe for the recording and mixing of the final songs to be featued on the CYC CD. I travelled to various studios in England and France to record the young people and mix down the CD at my own studio for mastering. I also filmed the journey that the young people take and edit together short making of videos as evidence of the project.
