As a specialist teacher I offer assistance to students (both in-class support and pull-out support) identified by the Student Resource Team who need help in content area courses. Study strategies are introduced and practiced in order to foster independence in all classes. Instruction is provided using scaffolding activities, pre-teaching class concepts, reviewing of concepts taught and prep/review for upcoming assessments. Students are taught organizational skills, thinking skills, and time management. Some remedial instruction may be provided in support of elective courses. The following instruction is determined through team collaboration and close student monitoring.

My responsibilities as Special Education Teacher included providing in class and individual pull-out support (year 6-10) to identified students who had academic difficulties and or concerns. As coordinator of special education my duties included chairing weekly meeting with all school special education and health teachers, program planning for students with academic concerns and assisting colleagues with in-class support ideas.
